I am a passionate and a deep believer that there are NO RULES when it comes to bringing out the best in our students, creating, learning or just being you. I love sharing my voice, sharing tools and ideas from my experience as an educator of 23+ years, or teaching others about the power of sketchnotes. I am passionate about the all of it, what it can bring out in our teaching, how it can enhance learning and what it can empower our learners to be!!
My Pencil Made Me Do It : A Guide to Sketchnoting In The Classroom (Workshop or Session): This hands-on, create to connect and doodle to learn workshop or session will have you connecting with your inner doodler, learning about the power in sketchnoting’s process, experiencing the power of visual thinking and doodling to learn and creating meaningful experiences you can combine with what you already do in your classroom to enhance your teaching and improve learning tomorrow. Come discover all the ways some new thinking, a pencil, hands on experiences, some paper and a whole lotta fun can improve comprehension, retention, attention, recall and so much more, all while bringing out the best in your teaching and in student’s learning.
Drawn To Play: Using Games to Improve Visual thinking and Enhance Learning (Session): Game mechanics and game design hold incredible potential in any classroom. Combine that with visual thinking, drawing, visuals and you have amazing moments and learning experiences filled with amplified learning, strengthened thinking, increased engagement and memorable experiences. Come draw a card, roll the dice and play to learn new ways to infuse your classroom with ideas and tools that will level up any classroom.
Has Anybody Seen My Pencil: Using Your Classroom to Sharpen Visual Thinking and Shape Learners Who Doodle (Session): Our classrooms are jam-packed full of tools and opportunities waiting for us to use to develop and enhance our students’ visual thinking skills. This hands-on, create to connect and doodle to learn session will have you imagining learning, experiencing visual thinking and creating ways to combine classroom supplies with meaningful visual experiences to bring out the best in your teaching and student’s learning.
Learning Mascots: Empower, Enhance and Support Learning with a Single Drawing (Session): There’s an incredible learner in each of us. An inner voice, an ultimate learner, an unwavering cheerleader, a fearless risk taker…it is our Learning Mascot! A single, self created doodle that empowers us to draw, enhances our visual thinking, supports positive mindset and improves our learning. This hands on, create and use session will have you connecting with your own learning mascot and learning the power they have to do incredible things for students in every classroom.
Drop Everything and Create: Using Student’s Creative Potential to Amplify Learning (Session): Everyday in our classes, there are opportunities for our students to show us skills and knowledge we didn’t know they had while empowering them to engage in new experiences and learning they didn’t know they could. This experience filled session will have you thinking of lessons and time in your classroom differently, planning ways to incorporate choice into each day/week and creating opportunities for your classroom so you can drop everything and create tomorrow.

CARRIE CO-HOSTS DOODLE AND CHAT WITH FRIENDS
Carrie Baughcum and Dr. Mandi Tolen, the hosts of Doodle and Chat with Friends, each bring over 22+ years of classroom experience to all they do. As published authors and experienced speakers, they love to share their ideas, learning and experiences with others! Through Doodle and Chat Mandi and Carrie use fun, the unpredictable, conversations, and the practice of sketchnotes to learn about educators, amplify their contributions to the field of education, and have conversations about current issues and ideas in education. With paper, pen, an iPad and “the bowl that knows” filled with fun relationship building and specific to the audience questions, Mandi and Carrie bring a new and unique keynote, an engaging conference session or an interactive, doodle filled, laugh to connect whole lotta fun conference experience.
WHAT IS THE DOODLE AND CHAT EXPERIENCE (Session, Interview, Keynote, Conference Experience): Our world is jam packed full of opportunities waiting for us to add connections, smiles, laughter and doodles to. Doodle and Chat uses fun, the unpredictable, conversations, and the practice of sketchnotes to learn about educators, amplify their contributions to the field of education, and have conversations about current issues and ideas in education. With paper, pen, an iPad and “the bowl that knows” filled with fun relationship building and specific to the audience questions, Mandi and Carrie pull from “the bowl that knows” while doodling and chatting (with each other and the audience) all about the questions.
